My initial response to "footprint" vs "land pattern" is that land pattern refers just to the pads onto which the component is soldered while footprint, IMHO, refers to the whole enchilada, pads, silk, assy, 3D ... I create footprints not land patterns for my PCB tool. So, for me anyway, both terms have a place. Land pattern is a sub set of a footprint.
