The extra pairs of hands for the week will be much appreciated. We've got a couple of failure investigations they can lend a hand with and some strip inspections to do. Oh and the Saturday snowfall needs clearing off the car park. Mind you it will probably have melted by the time they've got the shovels out

Regards
Ian

Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz - the Answer

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:

This element has seven naturally occurring isotopes and none of them are radioactive. This element makes fireworks green. What element is being described?

The Answer:

The element is Barium (Ba)! Barium is very abundant in the Earth's crust, despite being a heavy metal. Barium is more abundant that carbon, sulfur and zinc. A barium-nickel alloy emits electrons when heated and is used in electron tubes and spark plugs. A calcium/barium/lead alloy is used for some bearing applications. Lithopone is a brilliant white pigment that is a combination of barium sulfate and zinc sulfide.

The winner of the weekly element quiz is Ian Fox, Aero Engine Controls, and he will get the services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for the week. James Head was correct as the isotope data I have in my reference is out of date! Just another bit of information I'll let the reference author know has changed. The Friday Element Quiz Board of Arbitration (FEQBA) did review Doug's answer of Boomium but he was disqualified due to one glaring technical error. Doug listed ISU-Farkas Point as a research site when in fact the site was Lake Winnebago Wisconsin. After a vein of Boomium was discovered, the town of Oh-Gosh was founded which, after years of cheese and beer consumption, became known as Oshkosh. Clumpy and Kloumpios caught a cargo flight for Heathrow and should be at Ian's facility by tonight.
