Using IPC material was not strictly what got Moonman into trouble. Here is the straight scoop that I got DIRECTLY FROM IPC when I was writing an article about IPC-2152 (current carrying capability), and used plenty of material copied right out of the document. Moonman was lifting entire sections (with illustrations) without giving credit. Anyway, here is what I was given when I asked:

-=-=-=-=-
TEXT is usually developed by committee members from industry and IPC is able to grant permission to use TEXT from industry consensus standards, depending on end use. This would usually include tables. The amount of text that is requested for use determines whether there is any license fee. Credit must be given to the IPC source and written permission for the specific text must be requested of IPC. Normally, up to 10% of the TEXT of a document can be used with no fees. More than 10% will have license fees dependent on the quantity of text and expected distribution.
ILLUSTRATIONS and pictures have significant investment on the part of IPC staff to make the drawings. Further, IPC does not "own" all of the illustrations and pictures; some are copyrighted by other companies and we have to have third party approval for use. Generally, we limit license of illustrations to non-commercial, internal company documents such as training or display posters provided neither the illustrations or the work they are placed in are sold.
-=-=-=-=-

hope that helps, and that you are not getting discouraged....

Anyway,

I see a huge difference between:
- someone deciding to share THEIR OWN pictures with the group
- posting conference papers or other publications

Just to avoid any conflict I think you should stay "pictures only" and let members share papers privately, as they see fit.
(don't stick your neck out for US, in other words)

so I'm wondering what you mean by "CLOSED".
Regardless, I can post pictures on my site if you are getting nervous.

Jack
