For wiping oil and sludge in automotive or machinery applications, nothing

Interesting post on the paper towels. Some years back we found that the
new paper towels we were using in the lab were scratching our
cross-sections when we wiped them off. Once we looked at them under the
microscope we immediately knew why - they were loaded with all sorts of
bits of colorful ground up debris and miscellaneous materials. They also
"sogged up" pretty quickly and fell apart when wet. Good enough for wiping
down the oil dipstick of your car but that was about it.
