Leland,
I would be very interested to know if your source of supply changed on
those paper towels in the recent past. We have people here who are always
trying to get stuff cheaper and sometimes there is a good reason why
something is cheaper and it is not good for us.

Techies,

If you, like many, have adopted sustainability measures within your
facility, it might be good if you thoroughly examine some of the new
materials that indirectly become part of your process.

As I was getting ready to leave work earlier this week, I ducked into the
restroom to wet a towel and wash my face (it had been one of those days).
I happened to glance at it before discarding, and caught a glimpse of
sparkling material. I found this strange, as I'd been at my computer
furiously verifying AOI programs for the last several hours.

I checked my hands and then my face in the mirror. The same material was
there.

Being the inquisitive guy I am, I took a dry sample of the recycled paper
towels to the microscope. What I found was cellulose fibers laden with
bits and pieces of metal, foil, and plastic. The largest metallic
particle on this 12 inch sheet measured 325 microns, plenty large enough
to bridge circuitry on our product. I performed an analysis beneath our
SEM and found it be pure aluminum.

Facilities and Safety were contacted, and all our towel dispensers
received a replenishment of virgin paper the following morning.

Geesh, I just can't seem to stay ahead.

Leland
