According to this article
" The NASA report, released in February 2011, uncovered no conclusive
evidence of an electronic defect that could provoke sudden acceleration
in the electronic throttle system in Toyota vehicles. That finding was
trumpeted by both NHTSA and Toyota as vindication of their previous
public conclusions on the matter."
I was pretty sure that NASA's investigation lead to the identification
of tin whiskers that have the potential to produce a failure in the
sensor. In my opinion this article still falls short in notifying the
general public of the tin whiskers and the potential impact they could
have on electronic devices in the automotive industry or otherwise.

Subject: [TN] National Research Council report on unintended
acceleration released today
I don't think this will come as much surprise, but the National Research
Council report on unintended acceleration released today puts the US
NHTSA
in the crosshairs. This gives some support to those who felt that NASA's
true findings were discounted or overlooked in the final NHTSA report.
