Anytime.
Along that thread, don't think that standard AOI machines for component inspection cannot do solder paste inspection. Many can do a decent job of detecting misprinted paste (misregistered), paste skips, slumped paste, and insufficient paste. Usually this needs to be a logarithm-based (grey-scale) machine, but even some comparison-based machines can do at least some type of paste inspection. So, if you have a 2D component inspection AOI machine, consider utilizing its capabilities to inspect paste prints. You will be surprised at what most of them can find, and even though it may not be perfectly optimal from a location standpoint, the number of defects they can find may be such that it is worth having an operator walk over and occasionally sample a print just to see if the print set-up/process is in control, especially if you can use a machine not required to run a different program, such as on another line not being used.
I have seen some shops put their benchtop manual unit on a rolling cart so it can be more easily used for both pre and post reflow inspection, and solder paste inspection as well. This makes for less walking/handling.

I will believe it when I see the PO :-)....at least that's what I am
being told right now.

Anyway, I did look at cyberoptics and Koh Young already. I will have to
look at MVP and add them to our evaluation sheet...thanks Richard!

$170K....Wow, I am jealous. I am having trouble justifying to bean
counters here to buy a simple batch laser 3D system from ASC (only
$13k). In a former life, I believe we were using MVP so, as is usually
the case, Dean is right on the money and the first to reply.

MVP and Koh Young make excellent in-line SPI machines, and I am sure
there are others out there. I have direct experience with these two
machines here and at other client's sites, and we are all very happy
(and impressed) with their capabilities. Other machine you might want to
check is Cyberoptics.

Dear Technetters,

We are looking to purchase in line solderpaste volume measurement
equipment (budgeted amount is 170K). The only fully automated in line
machines I have seen so far are from one US based manufacturer and a
Korean manufacturer. I am looking to see what are folks on technet using
and their experiences with the tool, both good and bad. Offline comments
would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Amol
