Jack,

Is it easy to explain? The real question: Is it easy to understand?
Gunpowder and bullets are easy to explain but if someone is only experienced
with sticks and sharps rocks the understanding part is not easy.

So much of this web stuff is similar. I am always having issues with new
technology as I really like the simple sticks and sharp rock type solutions.
But, bullets beat arrows every time. :-(

How users are granted permissions depend a lot on the mechanism for file
transfer.

I really like WEBDAV though I never figured out how to get the Windows
built in WEBDAV support working. There are free WEBDAV clients but I don't
want to hold 500 pairs of hands as I lead them through a new door in the
matrix. WEBDAV will be my first approach. If that does not pan out I will
setup a FTP site. WEBDAV is a lot like FTP except it uses HTTP for the
communications. This means WEBDAV has few, if any, issues of getting through
firewalls.

For FTP I can allow anonymous vs password login and the users can deal with
their own firewalls.

Bob

I'm more interested in how you can assign a password for uploading!

I host a system where many little sites are hosted (mostly my brother and
sisters and friends) at http://frontdoor.biz , but I always have to load
everything because I only have one password, and I don't want anyone
screwing around with anyone else's stuff.

I never knew this was possible,
is it easy to explain?

Jack
