I think there should be some sort of requirement for a designer to spend at
least a few weeks on the manufacturing floor before they start laying out
boards...
I have spend hours dealing with engineers to discus production issues, may they be Electrical, mechanical, software, industrial, chemical...
They all appreciated the efforts I was making by bringing units and picture to their labs to actually show them the problem. I even had a few coming for a tour of the production when needed, whether the issue was in house or at a supplier site.
They usually like the experience and eventually get much better at doing right the first (or second) time around.

I was trained as a chemist originally, but I have worked in manufacturing engineering and quality engineering for the last 20 years.
I could always consult the vast knowledge of the IPC TechNet contributors and for that I am grateful.
I don't interject on a regular basis and never from this account. I have used Digest Format in the last few years and interacted even less.
What I mean to say is: Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you.
Al!
