Folks,

You state that you have used PPF connectors in the past. Have you conducted any cross sections or signal integrity to measure resistance. What is your experience with integrity of forced rework on these connector. What are the guideline for interface contact between the pin surface and the copper wall? Are nickel layer cracks permitted? Any data share would be greatly appreciated. A picture is worth one thousand words.

Victor,

Hi Victor,
I have used press fit connectors with ENIG boards. They work fine. There are a few things to consider. The insertion force tends to be a bit higher. As always, the connection is sensitive to hole size (drilled & finished). There is also a risk of cracking the nickel layer if it is too thick. I have seen boards with greater than 200 micro inches of nickel crack at the extreme of acceptable hole size.

        Hope this helps.

Fellow TechNetters:

What are the Pros & Cons of using PPF connector with a board surface finish of ENIG? I typically see PPF connector on other than ENIG plating.
