A test we have used, which works nicely, is to put some 0.1N Silver Nitrate solution (available from most lab supply houses) into a dropper bottle. Put a drop on exposed Copper, and it turns Copper black.
I suspect strongly that this 0.1N concentration is much higher than is necessary for this test, and that it could be diluted, and sprayed from a hand held sprayer, if necessary.

Is there a chemical application that can be used to discolor exposed copper such that it can be more easily detectible visually? In other words, is there a way to chemically accelerate verdigris or cause some other reaction to turn any exposed copper green or blue?
