Along these lines, if you haven't tested a laser cut foil (either nickel or regular stainless) from a modern fiberoptic laser it's worth a look.  They're a different animal than one cut on a YAG laser and you might be pleasantly surprised at how they compare to electroform at a substantial price reduction.
