Well 95% right :)

Fluorine

Greek word was originally suggested - Phthorine

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question (sorry for being late,
just got back from a tin whisker conference):

The Question:

This element is essential for humans and we consume 0.3 - 3 milligrams per
day in our diets. However, it has also been shown to be an effective
insecticide for cockroaches and ants. Chemists were aware of this element as
early as 1670 but were unable to isolate the element and many became either
ill or died as a result of their isolation attempts. Cattle grazing on areas
contaminated by volcanic dust have become ill/lame due to the presence of
this element. This element has one natural isotope. What element is being
described?

Bonus Question: What Greek word was originally suggested as the name for
this element?
