Dave,
The Question: This element has limited but specialized commercial uses. An artificially produced radioactive isotope of this element, which has a half life of 84 days, is used in oil refineries to monitor the movement of various fractions as oil is refined. A pure sample of this element was first produced in 1937 by electrolysis at 800C. There is no geological process to concentrate this element and is widely distributed in many types of rock (800 minerals so far). What element is being described? The Answer:
Scandium
Scandium 46 half-life = 83.8 days
