I would think that if the protective coating encroached onto the end cap on
the top, it shouldn't pose any problem as long as it didn't interfere with
allowing a good solderjoint to form. As far as the other questions, I can't
help much there...it's outside of my realm of knowledge.

Do anyone out there have experience/knowledge of the ceramic resistor
process and parameter specification? Is there a base material applied
before thin film application? Is there a method/technique for checking
coating integrity. Similar to, Chemical test for passivation pin hole on
ICs. Is there a spec for end cap/wrap around? Etc....
