Hi Steve - Clumpy's expertise in statistics is also quite impressive.
Never knew he had that skill set but when Doug provides us with Clumpy and
Kloumpios history/backgrounds, I am sure we will find out just where he
picked up that knowledge.

Dave

Hi Ahne,

A little late, but here's the photo you sent of Clumpy and Kloumpios:

Boy, I gotta tell you, that Kloumpios is a better man than I! That
woodpile
is quite impressive!

Steve

As you can see, (hopefully Steve can add the picture to his long list??),
Clumpy has shown he has a head for numbers, as we knew all along, and
Kloumpios has the strength and some artistic talents.

Thanks for the help to both of them and they are ready for their next
assignments, even though a little worn out.

Ahne.

Actually, I'll make use of their services here in Oregon. One can help me
make sense out of a lot of data regarding the precision of the size of
stencil apertures cut in various ways using different machines and
processes.
The other one can help me cut and split wood in the forest behind the
house
and make firewood for the winter. The tractor will come in very handy.
I will have to interview both to see who has the best skills for each
task.

Looking forward to their help,

Ahne.

Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz - the Answer

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:

This element has a very contentious history pertaining to who actually
first
discovered it. This element has been produced by bombarding
americium-243 with neon-22 atoms and bombarding californium-249 with
nitrogen-15 atoms. The element was "finally" named in 1997. The longest
lived isotope of this element has a half life of 34 seconds.

Bonus Question: List the two names that were used for this element prior
to
1997.

The Answer:

The element is Dubnium (Db). There was a period of element discovery in
the
late 1960s thru the late 1970s where there was considerable confusion and
contention on who discovered what transfermium elements. Db was caught up
in
that chaos. The scientists at JINR in Dubna Russia claimed discovery in
1967, then the scientists at UC Berkeley USA claimed discovery in 1970.
The credit and naming issue was resolved in 1997. The bonus question
answers
are nielsbohrium (Ns) and hahnium (Ha) which were both used for a period
time until 1997. I don't believe the committee ever considered Doug's
"dummynium" as a viable naming option.

The quiz winner is Ahne Oosterhof of A-Laser so Clumpy and Kloumpios will
fire up the tractors and head for Milpitas CA (???) for a week of service.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have:

Week 1 Lamar Young, SCS Coatings
- accomplished nothing (drank lots of coffee)

Week 2 Bev Christian, RIM
- conducted REACH material testing

Week 3 Drew Meyer, Benchmark Electronics Inc.
- Solderability testing and mowed the lawn

Week 4 Ian Fox, Goodrich
- had an epic journey of travel

Week 4 Gary Ferrari, Garrick Global
- unknown

Week 5 Fredrick Miller, Astrolab
- unknown

Week 6 David Nelson, Raytheon
- Were tackling dummys for Dallas Cowboys

Week 7 Graham Collins, L3 Communications
- Cleaned gutters and painted window trim

Week 8 Bill Noel, ITT Geospatial Systems Division
- unknown

Week 9 Steve Gregory of RD Circuits
- unknown

Week 10 David Bealer of Watchfire Signs
- descaled the in-line wash machine! Ouch!

Week 11 Dick Krug of Sparton Corporation
- assisted with AS9100 quality management systems requirements audit

Week 12 Steve Creswick of Balanced Enterprise Solutions
- Acted as Steve's "go fer" due to a broken leg!

Week 13 Gebhard Neifer, Delphi
- conducted a plasma pre treatment Taguchi DOE for a sealing process

Week 14 Bev Christian, RIM
- assisted with a tin pest investigation/test

Week 15 Bev Christian, RIM
- assisted Bev shoveling snow

Week 16 David Bealer of Waatchfire Signs

cousin Kloumpios

Week 18 Denny Fritz, SAIC
- assisted with tin whisker inspection/examinations

Week 19 Graham Collins, L3 Communications
- assisted with scraping barnacles, boat paint and boat engine maintenance

Week 20 Mark Woolley, PTRL Laboratory Avaya
- assisted with weather observations (70F to snow) and resolving
electrochemical migration failures

Week 20 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
- assisted with commercial aircraft galley inspection

Week 21 Brian Ellis, supposedly retired, and Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense,
Space and Security

Week 22 Drew Meyer, Benchmark Electronics Inc.
- assisted with metallographic cross-sections and Dye & Pry testing

Week 23 Bev Christian, RIM
- assisted with a creep corrosion project and the setting up of an oxygen
bomb

Week 24 Steve Gregory, RD Circuits
