Hi Richard,

I'm not sure if you found your answer yet. Clause 6.1 of the J-Std-001 Revision E states "Components that are required to be mounted off the board, shall be elevated at least 1.5 mm [0.059 in.]". 

It doesn't specifically use the term "power resistor" but it is usually a higher watt resistor that receives this type of treatment.

Where is the requirement for power resistors to be installed above the PWB surface?  I thought it was in J-STD-001, but I can't find it.
