Guy,

Some groups/people consider plastic packages to be 'hermetic', but I dare
say
that you would not get individuals which have built true hermetic hybrids to

agree to that.

Same way that some companies advertise 'hermetic' polymers - maybe for days
or weeks, but not for the long haul.

It sounds like they are giving themselves a mighty big CYA in a generic
sense.
Then making it known they have a high rel version as well - for the special
occasions

Maybe they have some history of their epoxy to metal seal surface not
holding
Up very well. Is this observed on other products from the same
manufacturer?

Do other manufacturers do this as well?

Steve

I think, though I may be wrong, that plastic packages are not considered
hermetic. I thought the PRF addressed ceramic ICs with glass seals.
It's been awhile.

Chris,

Sure makes it sound like they are concerned about 'leakers' with the molded
packages, doesn't it!

Hello netters,
If a SOIC-8 data sheet has a note "non-halide flux should be used" on their
suggested (Pb-free) reflow profile drawing, and close-by they mention that a
MIL-PRF-38534 hermetic version is available, should one read something into
this?

Thanks,

Chris
