Don,
This topic has come up from time to time in the J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610
committee meetings. Vision is usually assumed to be corrected to 20/20
and you go from there. Several individuals in the committees, who deal
more with oversees usage of A-610 indicate that "20/20" or "3 diopters",
are American terms and have no meaning oversees. I confirmed that with my
brother-in-law, a doctor of optometry, who confirmed that there is no
international standard for visual acuity.

Subject
[TN] Should inspectors be able to see?

Does anyone have a standard for an inspector's ability to see? We have
required them to pass color-blind testing in the past, but have recently
mulled over a visual acuity requirement. I wondered if this is more normal
than not, because it seems like we would want to ensure that they see
lines with definition rather than blurry masses.

I humbly look forward to any input that may be offered.

Don
