Dave,

I believe the element you are quizzing us on is ruba-dub-Dubnium, but it
seems to have progressed through the names Dubnium 1968, Neilsbohrium 1970,
Hahnium 1970, Joliotium (recommended) 1994, and finally back to Dubnium in
1997.

Boy these guys need to get a life...

Element 105 - Dubnium was synthesized by a Soviet team in 1968
was re-synthesized by the same Soviet team in 1970, and called Neilsbohrium
Element 105 - Hahnium was synthesized by A US team in 1970
The name Joliotium was recommended in 1994
The name Dubnium was finally accepted in 1997

Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz - the Question

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question (this one may take
some sleuthing so the quiz is going out early):

The Question:

This element has a very contentious history pertaining to who actually
first discovered it. This element has been produced by bombarding
americium-243 with neon-22 atoms and bombarding californium-249 with
nitrogen-15 atoms. The element was "finally" named in 1997. The longest
lived isotope of this element has a half life of 34 seconds.

Bonus Question: List the two names that were used for this element prior
to 1997.

The quiz winner will get the services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for the
week.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have:

Week 1 Lamar Young, SCS Coatings
- accomplished nothing (drank lots of coffee)

Week 2 Bev Christian, RIM
- conducted REACH material testing

Week 3 Drew Meyer, Benchmark Electronics Inc.
- Solderability testing and mowed the lawn

Week 4 Ian Fox, Goodrich
- had an epic journey of travel

Week 4 Gary Ferrari, Garrick Global
- unknown

Week 5 Fredrick Miller, Astrolab

Week 9 Steve Gregory of RD Circuits
- unknown

Week 10 David Bealer of Watchfire Signs
- descaled the in-line wash machine! Ouch!

Week 11 Dick Krug of Sparton Corporation
- assisted with AS9100 quality management systems requirements audit

Week 12 Steve Creswick of Balanced Enterprise Solutions
- Acted as Steve's "go fer" due to a broken leg!

Week 13 Gebhard Neifer, Delphi
- conducted a plasma pre treatment Taguchi DOE for a sealing process
