I don't know how much additional protection the cover provides. Perhaps an ESD blanket to cover CCA's on dissipative trays could provide cost effective protection if you don't have large numbers of these large CCA's.

Hi Dick,

Yeah, I think I saw those for Metro tray carts:

http://www.metro-wire.com/index.cfm?mf=browse.showPart&partClassID=5363&PName=SmartTray%20ESD%20Cart%20Covers

The carts that I was considering earlier were 18" X 26" Bliss tray carts, and they only have 5-sides too. But I found out that the 18" X 26" tray isn't big enough for the largest boards we build here.

http://catalog.blissindustries.com/cgi-bin/Panorama.cgi?CATALOG~.catpart~9760-300-11

Bliss says they will do a custom cover, but I haven't got a quote back from them yet (everybody is at APEX).

The covered cart option is pretty expensive, and I'm wondering how much extra protection (if any) that really buys you.

Steve

In my past we had used some ESD cloth covers over racks with CCA's. CCA's were not Class 0. Covers were over 5 sides, but I think the bottom was open.

I know a lot are off to APEX, but do any of you have any opinion of tray carts moving product on the production floor? Specifically in a low ESD sensitive environment?

Do covered carts offer any more protection than a open cart if it is well grounded and the product is on static dissipative trays?

Just trying to understand if I need to spend the extra money on a covered cart or not.

Thanks,

Steve
