Hi Steve,
You are correct, the cover tape is the problem. Although I haven't verified this yet, our technician claims that he has a problem with the opaque (milky white) cover tape. He claims that small chips can stick to the tape resulting in lost components. He thinks it's an static build-up issue, but I doubt it. Anyway, we'd like to specify either the black or clear cover tape, once I know the proper designation.

Subject: RE: [TN] Tape and Reel Specification

Hi Jim,

The only spec I know of for tape and reeling is EIA-481, I think it's at rev
D now.

But I'm trying to think of what your pick and place technician might be
having an issue with when you say he likes a specific "type of T&R", could
it be the cover tape? I know that PSA cover tapes can be a problem with some
pick and place feeders.

Steve

Subject: [TN] Tape and Reel Specification

Good Day Technet:
I'm looking for a specification for material types and selection of
component tape and reels. My Pick & Place technician likes a specific type
of T&R but I don't know how to specify it. Is there an IPC spec available
(or any other organization)?

Thanks in advance,

Jim Marsico
