From a packaging or Customer perspective; tooling as opposed to NRE.  Possibly proprietary tooling.  
As the worker bee on the floor I'd say "give me some of those things that hold the board".  
Seriously, we'd design a tray that would take advantage of existing mounting holes in a big board or design in tooling holes to the array.  The tray always had commonality in order to repeatedly predict mass for reflow temp adjustment.  I have a CM partner that refers to these trays as pallets.  
Technically these can fall into the category of widgets.
