Have been building PCAs, not for LED illuminators, with "white" soldermask for ~2.5 yrs... Have seen no problems except when soldermask coating was thin and PCB bulk material showed through and when someone used a hot air gun when they shouldn't have...

Subject: Re: [TN] White solder mask discoloration

As an EMS provider, we soldered our first CCA's with white solder mask within the past month. I hadn't heard of any discoloration. Based on this query, I looked at a raw PWB and finished assembly next to each other yesterday under office area lighting. I couldn't see any difference in the color. This was not "measured", but was critically reviewed.

Subject: [TN] White solder mask discoloration

Hi Technetters,

Does anyone have experience with white solder mask? Any chances of success
passing these through reflow without discoloration?

We had a bunch of them sent to our CM and they all came back with a yellow
to brown discoloration. I believe there are different types of solder masks
out there but is there some standard regarding their capacity to resist
heat? The process used it RoHS.

Thanks in advance!
