Please oh Technet Gurus, I need advice, or maybe solace for my rant or just, whatever.

In the last several years it seems MFRs are naming package types all kinds of favorite flavors, the latest one I have come across courtesy of Panasonic is a "Mini2-F1", a tad smaller than an SOD123. As a librarian responsible for naming the various devices I prefer to keep the file names closer to the IPC/JEDEC "style" or format, or maybe I should just loosen up, relax and go with it.

Is there some type of "equivalence table" of package names out there that make an attempt to either relate or explain the stuff MFRs are coming up with? Are the MFRs just riffing on whatever comes into their clever little brains? Or sould I just go with whatever the package is named on the data sheet, what are other folks (component engineers, etc.) doing? I still think a library full of file names should have groups of names that "variate on a basic theme" in order to instantly recognise certain size characteristics without having to open the file and perform all sorts of measurement/queries (easy for me, not for the folks that don't have a PADS tool for example, they must go by file names).

Thanks,

Ken Barton (206) 407-8665 [log in to unmask]
