A coating seals in as well as out.

It would seem from your description that you have a very dirty assembly and are expecting a conformal coating to protect the circuit from a tough environment. There is no coating in the world that will do what you ask if the problem pre-exists beneath it.

Happily the acrylic coating will be relatively easy to remove and, in so doing, the board will be cleaned. This would be a good thing.

Of course you have already verified that you had applied the correct coating thickness and coverage in the first place?
