By calling out IPC-6012 or 6013 (for rigid or flex) you automatically get all of 
the requirements in 6011 (general)

the IPC-A-600 is just a visual reference book that will help in making the 
determinations for what is acceptable and what is not ("picture worth a 
thousand words" theory) 

I don't know if you've noticed, but 6012 and 6013 both have nice little 
summaries in the Appendix, which makes it really easy to find the right section 
for most common situations.
