Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question:
The Question:
This element has two allotropic phases - one is an FCC structure and one
is a HCP structure. This element plays a critical role as an alloying
element in a wide range of metal alloys, cermets and protective coatings.
This element has only one stable isotope which finds use in food
sterilization and medical radiotherapy. Nearly 6 billion tons of this
element are estimated to exist on the world's seafloor but are not
economically recoverable at today's metal prices. What element is being
described?
Bonus question: In what year was this element's oxide first reduced to
produce the pure element?
The winner of the quiz will put Clumpy to work.
