Technetters are way to sharp, even on a Friday.

A relative of mine posted this question on Facebook, and another relative
answered:

To provide a medium for the various patterns of pigmentation that help to
identify what kind of cow is inside.

this was then further defined as:

providing a chemical and physical barrier to protect and contain a cow's
internal organs, as well as shielding them from the sun's radiation, and
providing a framework to correctly position all of its nerve endings, and
hair follicles.

in other words, the most prolific use of cowhide is to cover cows.

have a great weekend, all!
