Hi Louis,
An airline is an intrinsic standard manufactured to be traceable through the mathematical model to nationally realized SI dimensional standards.
You can't calibrate one without rebuilding it. You might be able to verify it.
Anyhow, if you ask somebody to calibrate it, I bet they would charge you a fortune.

What I would do to placate an auditor is ask a calibration lab to VERIFY the airline to YOUR specifications, not the manufacturer's. Some cal labs simply refuse, but if you find one who will work with you, you should be able to get it back down to a cost effective point.

The other thing you can try is to setup a procedure for routinely inspecting for damage to the line. Combine this with an accredited proficiency testing program (that's $$$ too), and you'll meet what is really the ISO/ILAC system intent.

Chris

Subject: [TN] airline calibration

TechNetters, any suggestions as to where I can get a beaded, 50-ohm airline calibrated? The manufacturer wants, to my mind, an enormous amount of money to calibrate it and I wonder if there is an alternative. Thanks for any ideas.
