Remember, the old water could conduct charge back to earth ground. Now, your DI water, through the plastic tubing cannot carry charge. Maybe not much change except the water cannot bleed off the static charge.

Steve,
I thought you had meant that your misting spray was charged but you are
nly talking about the equipment seems to be "poking" you.
I would check the grounding of the fan and make sure the fan cage is
ied into the earth ground.
I hope you are using a GFCI to plug the fans into.
Phil

It didn't last year when we ran the fans on tap water. I was up all
round
hem and didn't a static shock I did this year...
We have a high pressure pump that pressurizes the water to around
00-1000
si and pumps the water through about 75-ft of high-pressure plastic
ubing,
nd then goes to misting rings that are zip-tied to the fan blade cover
f
he floor fans to disperse the water:

This is the second year that we've been using it. It keeps the humidity
evel between 35%-40% on the shop floor. We need it during the winter.
Last year when used it, we had a lot of "dusting" because we were using
ap
ater. This year we put a DI column on the water source.
How I come across the static charge is because I noticed that some water
ad
egun collecting at the base of fans. I went up to check why (the fans
re
n top of our offices inside our manufacturing space). When I approached
nd
ouched the metal cage around the fan, I got a little "poke" from the
tatic.
The water is puddling (I think) because it's being attracted to the
etal
an blades and slinging off the blades to collect on the fan cage and
hen
rip to the ground. The fans weren't doing this last year when we ran
hem
n tap water...

Steve<
DI is a heck of an insulator. I assume tap water did not do this?

This may be an off the wall question but here goes.

We have some misting fans that we use for humidification that we've just
ecently put in a deionized water source for.

Now it seems that there's a static charge being generated at the fans
hat
've never noticed before. Could it be possible that we're generating a
harge at the fans because of the DI water?

Steve
