As a former GC/MS field service engineer (LKB, HP, DuPont, Varian MAT), I can say "it depends"
Method of injecting the sample onto the column
Capillary or wide bore column (prefer capillary - much better resolution)
Magnet or quadrapole (or as HP calls it "dodecapole") mass filter (magnets are much more precise)
Vaccum system - no background to subtract
Technican skill level
Reference samples that are similar in composition to train the technican

GCMS, she is a fickle beast. According to my lab folks here, even when doping ours with a certain known ingredient she spits back a 70% match.
One response was, "Be careful as GCMS can lead you down a rabbit hole real fast".
