I doubt that simply making the water DI will do this. More likely the
case that we are in winter now, and relative humidity is lower so the
potential (pun intended) is greater for static generation. You may not
have noticed it before because the overall RH was higher.

Are the fan blades metal or plastic? Is the fan properly grounded?

Re: [TN] Deionized water in misting fans and static electricity

Okay...I'm thinking thunderstorms. But I'm pretty sure this wasn't
happening
before we put a DI column in for the water.

We put the humidification in to prevent static, not generate it.

Not because of the deionized water as much as the water itself...

Space charge collects on water droplets at emission point and due to
movement... Then the chargeable particulate generates current due to a
delta
V in potentials...Think thunderstorms...

This may be an off the wall question but here goes.

We have some misting fans that we use for humidification that we've just
recently put in a deionized water source for.

Now it seems that there's a static charge being generated at the fans that
I've never noticed before. Could it be possible that we're generating a
charge at the fans because of the DI water?

Steve
