Sounds like a plan.
With regards to the consumption of Mountain Dew and global warming, I think the greatest contribution to global warming gases would be from its manufacture and transportation. Of course that assumes one beleives the human contribution to global warming is significant.

From Wikipedia: Metalloid is a term used in chemistry when classifying
the chemical elements. The term semimetal is sometimes used synonymously,
but this is sometimes defined differently. On the basis of their general
physical and chemical properties, nearly every element in the periodic
table can be termed either a metal or a nonmetal. However, a few elements
with intermediate properties are referred to as metalloids (from the Greek
metallon = "metal" and eidos = "sort").
The group of elements that the industry considers (note: not a consensus
opinion) "metalloids" are: boron, silicon, germanium, arsenic, antimony,
tellurium, and polonium.
The Rules Committee considers the topic of discussion a classic debate
between chemists and metallurgists of which they will not take a position
(unless they are properly bribed). The Rules Committee suggests Mr.
Christian and Mr. Hillman continue the debate at the next IPC meeting with
their favorite beverage in hand with additional Technet members servings
as the debate jury. Alternatively the Rules Committee suggests the entire
topic is the result of Doug Paul's consumption of Diet Mt. Dew causing
Global Warming.

I was a little taken aback when in an earlier quiz you labeled antimony as
a
metal rather than as a metalloid, but I can live with it, I guess.
However,
for you to call silicon a metal is just too much! In 57 years, 41 of
those
as a chemist (I am counting from when I decided to be one in grade 9), I
have NEVER before now heard anyone call silicon a metal. As a main group
chemist (fluorine chemist actually), I consider it a non-metal and am
willing to concede it is a metalloid, but metal? Never! You are poaching,
sir. I will stop short of demanding satisfaction. However, I do ask you
to
respond and I also ask fellow TechNetters their opinion on this.

The Answer:
The element is Silicon (Si). Silicon is a metal that enables technology in
a multitude of ways. Silicon is a deoxidizer in steel production, the
basis for integrated circuits, glass, cement, protective coatings for high
temperature applications, and families of polymers. Ge atoms are larger
than Si atoms so an alloy of 85%Si and 15% Ge has an average interatomic
spacing slightly larger than pure Si. When a pure layer of Si is deposited
on the 85/15 alloy, the Si becomes strained resulting in a 70% faster
signal speed parallel to the surface! Less than 1% of the world's
production of Si is the pure form but that 1% (approximately 40K
tons/year) is roughly equal in total dollar value to the other 99% of the
metallic Si production.
