I assume the pins go through holes on the board?

How about manufacturing an new tip for a heavy soldering iron?

Take the soldering iron up to a temperature somewhere between the Tg and 
melting point of the material, probably about 150 deg c but you'll get 
the details off Matweb, and push the heads flat. A bit like riveting.
