My buyer tells me that Avnet and Future and Arrow report this informaation.

The Lattice Semiconductor mfg rep in our area is aware of what we buy and warns us when a part is in "last buy" stage.

FYI, Lattice is very responsive to small volume customers. They continue to offer tin/ead BGAs in many of their products. I've been sharing with Lattice e-mailed articles which illustrate that all is not well with lead-free. A new FPGA which we need to use was to be only SAC BGA balled. I was not a happy camper as I'd concluded from talking with many here that the part was going to have to be re-balled (we only use water washable flux with tin/lead solder paste). I got the feeling that the articles (and comments that MIL/aero/medical still needed tin/lead packaging) helped them to see the value in continuing to offer it.

The moral of the story is: don't assume you won't be listened to, that RoHS is a done deal. Work with the reps and factory sales engineers; educate them about your non-RoHS needs in e-mails with articles that illustrate the problems.

In the present economy, any business is better than no business and unhappy customers are not good for business.

Subject: [TN] Component End of Life notification services

Has anyone used such a service and how effective is it?

I've found that Arrow and Part Miner offer this service. Any preferences either way or are there others out there?

Thanks
Peter
