That was my thought but I couldn't believe they would saddle the TV owner
with such a large and ungainly unit. It is still possible that you are right as
early technology is often not user friendly.
My memory of these units is about one and one half to two times a cigarette
pack in size with four buttons. I thing they were called boingers for the fact
that the button triggered hammers that struck the rods inside. But I thought
that they operated above the range of human hearing.
Looking at Craig's picture I would think that the sound produced would be in
the human hearing range.
