We do the exact same thing here as Larry's shop does. I wouldn't call it 2 
BOMs, there is a subassembly level BOM of SMT parts only, which actually 
includes all parts from the machine inserted TH processes, which is included 
on a next level BOM for any had assembled parts, which are typically 
connectors, radial caps, transformers. We build a few hundred through the 
intermediate level, place into a kanban supermarket, then finish whatever 
quantity we need for customer demand.
