Hi Doug
Only incidentally, not by design and not in the same thickness as the
rest of the board.  We spray coating typically, and while spraying a
surface (top or bottom) some coating will land on the edge, but not any
significant amount.  We do not try to apply coating to the edges.

Logic - other than "that's how we have always done it", what comes to
mind is that the dead zone at the edge of the board should provide
protection for traces within - it isn't like we have exposed copper at
the board edge...  

Although obviously it depends on the process being used.  Our parylene
boards are coated all over...

Good afternoon all,

I am glad we all appreciate Inge and the time he puts into making this a

fun and interesting forum.  To sum up: Ditto.

I have a question related to conformal coating, a sort of survey.  For 
those of you that conformally coat your assemblies, do you coat the
edges 
of the boards?  Why or why not?

There is an internal debate here and I wanted some other viewpoints
before 
offering my own.
