I've been at Ericsson Telecom and Ericsson Mil/Space for decades. We put
longtime components (>>1 year) in nitrogen cabinets and < 1 year in std
30-50 RH stores, all tests are done by the supplier. Of course you must pay
for that. However, not all can be satisfactorily tested except by ourselves
and to meet special requirements. Such packages are opened, tests are done,
and the packages are re-sealed and stored in one of the two ways above. For
Telecom, there are normally no problems at all, because of the enormous
production rate. What arrives on Monday is consumed before Frday. Looking
back, I can't remember many storage issues.
What I described is just for electronic parts. Storage of chemicals,
mechanical parts and assemblies is another story.

Hi All,

I am interested in finding out more info on storage of components before
use, some component makers have info on their site, some do not. Is this the
appropriate area to ask, is there another site that might be better?
How are people handling the issue of sealed packaging and the need to test?
It seems counterproductive to open the package to test, and then throw it in
a warehouse where it may sit for gawd only knows how long before use.
