Blair, Bryon - regarding inspection, if I interpret the discussion correctly, I recommend considering skip-lot sampling. There is a book on the topic by Kenneth Stephens, published by the American Society for Quality. Looking at my copy of it, there is a reference to Standard S1-1987, but a quick search of ASQ site did not reveal a way to get this standard (if the standard still exists). With skip-lot sampling, you can choose a well-defined approach to inspection. Louis Hart

Bryon,
It probably varies considerably from company to company. Probably the best
approach is to understand what your customers / users expect, and how well
controlled your process are to meet their expectations. If you can produce a
product that meets expectations, you can safely skip inspection. You would
probably want to perform inspection a sample basis to verify that the process
hasn't changed.
