Totally agree Bob. We only hand-assemble through-hole. Don't do our own prototypes.

For limited SMT repair/rework we use water-washable and go through the same process.
Never have tried to remove a BGA myself - I let the CM do that. Fortunately (knock on wood)
we have had very few failures in SMT assemblies so haven't had to do much rework/repair.

The only part we've had to remove/replace is the Analog Devices AD208 (RS-232 interface) as even with transorb
zener protection, occasionally a customer smokes one of them. We're in the electric utility industry
and sometimes lightning can take out a unit and it's always the interface that fails. Happens when the customer
doesn't do the grounding correctly.
