Just tell the customer the heat vs time ratio that can affect device
operation is high non-linear.

 Then ask them, what affect are they worried about?

 Usually that shuts them up or they then ask you to explain. Smart customer
ask for the explanation, but few customers ask.

Sounds like you are making high output led lighting or similar


Explain to the customer that the same efficient heatsink that stops his
devices overheating Is having the same affect in your soldering irons. Also
explain that pre heating is normal - example is wave soldering....has the
Guy ever manufactured anything?
