Richard,

Can not recommend a specific supplier either, however would recommend that
you diamond saw the boards to singulate rather than score and break, etc.

Most hybrid mfrs that deal with ceramics, or dicing of wafers can easily saw
generic laminates, leaving the module with mirror smooth edges and little
tearing, smearing of the castellation metallization. Amounts to selection
of blade, feed and speed. Have diced boards ranging from 0.010-0.062" thick
using this method.

Since your have a single-sided board, one would just attach the board to a
sacrificial plate [glass for example] with a water soluble wax after
assembly. Problems will surface if the board is warped, or tall components
are near the edges where the hub of the dicing blade may hit.

Getting the board is the easy task. Am sure that you can find a facility
somewhere nearby that can dice them for you...

Subject: [TN] looking for castellation board vendor recommendation

Hello Everyone,

It's been a few years since I've been on TechNet, and it's good to see some
familiar names. I hope you're all doing well in these difficult times.

I know my question begs more questions, but I would like to hopefully keep
it simple by asking if anyone can recommend a pcb fab company to get some
boards with castellated edges made.

Right now these are prototype and I don't know what the quantity will
eventually be. Other than the castellation there is nothing strange about
them. They are less than 1 sq. in. in area, 4 layer, SMD one side, 6/6 mil
trace/space, 14 mil via. Having thinner boards (0.031") would be preferred
but seems to really impact cost, so it is a secondary parameter.

If anyone can reply with a recommendation it would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard
