I guess the gold-guessers are right, but I wonder about the carbon form
named graphite (therefore not an element). Used as a lubricant, can't it be
extremly thin too? the matrix of graphite ought to allow just a few atom
layers of thickness, at least in theory. Anyone know?

Inge

Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz - The Question

> Hi folks! Here is the Friday Element Quiz. There won't be a quiz next week
> due to the IPC Midwest Conference in Chicago.
>
> The Question:
>
> This element occurs as a native metal in the Earth's crust. The annual
> production of this element is small - the total quantity of this element
> produced in 2000 would fit into a cube just 5 meters on a side. The
> largest single chunk of this element was 90 kg found in Australia in 1872.
> This element is the most ductile metal as 1 kg of it can be rolled into a
> sheet only 10 nm thick with an area of 5000 square meters (i.e. the size
> of a football field).
>
>
> Bonus points: The origin of the word "crass" is related to this element.
> Name the person associated with the element/word origin.

> The winner of this week's quiz will have Clumpy assist them for a week.
