Jack,
NOT a boring subject. I am just surprised that your board supplier doesn't have a single matt finish solder mask in production. THAT is strange, to my mind anyways.

That's what seems so strange to me. 
Everyone lists plenty of advantages for matte mask, no one presents any 
downside to using them (except personal preference for shiny boards in 
marketing photos?) and yet the fabricators don't have them, at least not 
without costly change-overs and extra processing. I still think I must be 
missing something....
