Ioan,

I have been profiling without a mesh belt for many years now......it is possible
but does present a challenge as most oven have tight entrances and exits.  And
getting a profiler stuck in the oven due to tight air baffles always raised
blood pressures in the case of two chamber ovens so you don't want to be putting
the recorder on top of a follower board.

Usually the method is to build a carrier that allows the recording unit to sit
lower than the conveyor level.  For example, a KIC unit thermal  protection box
is 1 inch in thickness and this is typically the maximum clearance height for
components on boards.

Also my preference is to build permanent thermocoupled assemblies for regular
profiling testing of the oven so it always pays back to build your own carrier.
I have used almost all of the various recording unit carriers and never found
that one works for everything we needed to run through the ovens.

The other fit issue is if you are profiling CCAs which are not as wide as the
recording unit.  Some of my board widths were under 4", so I usually had to
attach the lightest weight FR4 "wings" to open the conveyor wide enough for the
unit/carrier to fit.

Center board supports always caused my designers problems when it came to
maximizing board utilization but if your assemblies are large, you either have
to use mesh or center board supports.

Phil

Subject: [TN] Profiling in ovens withour mesh

Dear Technos,

We might purchase a reflow oven with center support, no mesh. And this sends me
meditating on how will I pass the MOLE inside, as there is nothing to carry it.
Are there any readymade adjustable fixtures that would avoid me placing the
recorder on top of a second board?

Thanks,
