 Hi Brad,
A really useful working 'hot bar' was developed at Bell Labs, was successfully used internally, but never was commercialized.
Here are the references,

In my experience, including the "way back machine" Hot Bar soldering was never

so hot and compelled me to spend more time in the bar...

With the risk of failure, reliability less than 100%, and potential scraping of

full value modules I always went with a small/mini/nano connector solution.

Although I do know there are folks out there successful in Hot Bar usage. ["way

back" being from 1985-1990, when all kinds of things were going on in PCB land

and CTE became a household name...]

  Hi,

I need you help, appreciate you if you can give some useful suggestion

Now a product that called Mini SAS is making in my compay,it is a cable

assembly, consist by two PCB ,36 way wires, heat shrink

tubing, innermold, overmold, etc. The wire diagram is one to one,two ends are

  36PIN PCB.

The PCB is 36 PIN(18PIN in each surface) and the pitch between each pad are

very small, PCB pad width is 0.6mm and the pitch is 0.8mm,the operator weld

the conduct of wires to PCB pad by HOT-BAR(auto welding maching),

the key problem is after welding and testing there have many badness goods

be made, like as short, open, insulation resistance is very small between each

pin(<1M Ohm),just low than 70% goods could be passed test.

Pls give your prefessional advice how to solve this problem, for instance

  PCB designing improve?

  Sn component imrpove?

  Welding machine parameter?

  Thank you!
