Last week I purchased Robert's guide "High Powered Printed Circuit Design".

His website is www.megadawn.com

His guide is well worth the $10 he charges. Just make a payment to his PayPal account, [log in to unmask], and he'll send you a pdf copy.

His website also mentions his long experience racing Mini's (Austin/Morris - not BMW). Bonus points for that!

I do not think IPC has any standards that govern PCB with heavy copper but there is someone whom I came across some years back that might be of help to you. He is Robert Tarzwell who wrote the book on "High Power Printed Circuit Design Notebook." This book described some of the guideline on design that use heavy copper. However, I am afraid that I did not have his current contact.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Cedric. Our basic guidelines for 210um (0.0084") thick copper is
.0.018" minimum for both line widths and spacing. One must also take into
consideration factors such as temperature rise, enclosure environment,
etc. Keep in mind that you are also plating inside your through holes, so
you must compensate here as well. I am not aware of an IPC specification
for heavy copper. We invested a considerable amount to develop our
guidelines.

[TN] hEAVY COPPER PCB DESIGN RULES

Hello Technetters,

I am looking for design rules regarding a 2 sided PCB having 210um of
finished copper. What are the minimum trace width and the minimum
clearance
betweens traces?

Is ther an IPC doc describing this?

Thanks for your answers in advance!

Sincerly,

Cedric
