All good replies this far.

I would recommend looking for the greatest output solar cell/array you can 
find that will fit in the designed area available.  Next check the motor and see 
if is a brushless type motor.  If not see if you can find a brushless motor with 
the same ratings.  You end the problem of brush wear and I believe that in 
most applications the brushless motor will draw less current (be more 
efficient).  A good cell/array with a brushless motor and you are set for many 
years of sunny comfort.
